Orbbec and Creality Launch Pika, Bringing 3D Scanning into the Pocket Era

Share

On May 29, Creality unveiled Pika, a next-generation AI-powered portable 3D scanner co-developed with Orbbec, during its 12th Anniversary “AI Ecosystem” product launch event.

Powered by Orbbec’s core underlying technologies, Pika breaks the mold of traditional 3D scanners by combining high-precision scanning, intelligent AI computing, and an ultra-portable design into one compact device. This launch marks a significant leap forward in integrated hardware and software innovation for the 3D scanning industry.

Ultra-Portable Design for 3D Scanning

One of Pika’s most significant innovations is its highly compact form factor, bringing truly portable 3D scanning into daily creative workflows.

Measuring just 100 × 60 × 35 mm and weighing a mere 260 g, Pika is pocket-sized and engineered for mobility. The device can operate directly with a smartphone — no PC required — unlocking unprecedented freedom for outdoor scanning and mobile content production.

Compared with conventional bulky scanning systems, Pika offers a user experience on pair with modern consumer electronics.

The device also features a built-in HD display for real-time scanning previews and a quick-release replaceable battery for uninterrupted mobile operations.

With the point-and-shoot simplicity of smartphone photography, Pika significantly lowers the technical threshold for professional-grade 3D scanning. Creators, designers, engineers, and hobbyists alike can now capture high-quality scans anytime and anywhere.

Pika, the next-generation AI-Powered Portable 3D Scanner

High-Speed Scanning with Up to 110 FPS Performance

Pika is designed to deliver a faster, more stable, and more reliable portable scanning experience.

Built on a global shutter 3D camera architecture, Pika could inherently eliminate motion blur during handheld operation. Compared with conventional rolling-shutter systems that frequently suffer from ghosting, distortion, or loss of tracking during movement, Pika maintains stable and clear data capture while scanning in motion.

Pika also delivers industry-leading high-frame-rate performance. In smartphone mode, line-laser scanning supports up to 40 FPS, while infrared mode reaches up to 20 FPS. When connected to a PC, line-laser scanning can achieve up to 110 FPS, significantly improving scanning efficiency and reducing tracking interruptions.

This high frame rate not only enables faster scanning, but also provides smoother and more stable data acquisition across diverse scenarios — from object scanning and full-body capture to complex structural modeling.

One Device for Diverse Creative Applications

Pika integrates both 7-line blue laser and infrared structured light technologies, enabling both ultra-fine and high-speed scanning within a single device.

The blue laser system delivers scanning accuracy of up to 0.03 mm, allowing precise capture of fine textures and intricate geometric details. It is particularly suitable for high-precision applications such as mechanical components, collectible figures, and cultural artifacts.

Meanwhile, the infrared structured light mode is optimized for human-body scanning, large-object capture, and marker-free scanning workflows.

Beyond hardware, Pika also incorporates advanced AI-powered algorithms for more stable target tracking, smarter data processing, and streamlined scanning workflows. Even first-time users can quickly generate high-quality 3D models for digital creation and 3D printing applications.

Besides, Pika’s AI-powered body completion algorithm also simplifies portrait 3D printing by automatically generating complete printable models with virtually zero manual editing.
