Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Orbbec Persee 2 and what makes it an all-in-one solution?

The Persee 2 is a camera computer that combines a high-performance depth camera with an embedded computer in a single device. It is based on active stereo technology with Orbbec’s custom ASIC for high-quality depth processing, and it adds an Amlogic A311D processor with a high-performance GPU and NPU to run user applications on board. With Android and Linux support and a range of ports, it is designed as a low-cost, compact all-in-one solution.

What processor and operating systems does the Persee 2 use?

The Persee 2 is built on the Amlogic A311D hexa-core processor (quad-core A73 plus dual-core A53) with an NPU, alongside the Orbbec ASIC for depth processing. It ships with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and supports both Android 9.0 and Ubuntu 18.04, so developers can run applications directly on the device.

What depth performance does the Persee 2 provide?

The Persee 2 uses active stereo IR technology and outputs high-quality depth data from 0.2 to 10m, with a spatial precision of 2% at 4m. Depth resolution reaches up to 1280×800 at 30fps and RGB up to 1280×800 at 30fps, with a depth field of view of 91 degrees horizontal by 66 degrees vertical. It also includes an IMU.

What ports and connectivity does the Persee 2 offer?

The Persee 2 provides a wide range of interfaces, including USB 2.0 Type-A, USB 2.0 Type-C for debug and firmware update, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI 2.0, a 3.5mm audio output, and a MicroSD expansion slot. It also has Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n/ac) and Bluetooth 5.0, plus a 4-microphone linear array. Power is supplied via DC 12V/2A.

What are the physical characteristics and operating conditions of the Persee 2?

The Persee 2 measures 180mm x 45mm x 76.5mm, weighs 352g, and mounts via a 1/4-20UNC thread. It is designed for indoor and semi-outdoor operation, with an operating range of 0 to 35 degrees Celsius and 5% to 95% relative humidity.

What are the typical applications for the Persee 2?

The Persee 2 is used for dimensioning, providing accurate package measurements to improve logistics accuracy; interactive displays, adding immersive experiences to interactive and educational installations; fall prevention, using real-time monitoring to detect fall risk and alert in time; rehabilitation, where skeleton tracking supports personalized exercises; and people counting and customer engagement.

How does the Persee 2 differ from the Persee N1?

The Persee 2 is built on the Amlogic A311D processor with an NPU and supports both Android and Linux, with built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a microphone array in a compact 352g body. The Persee N1 instead pairs an Orbbec Gemini 2 camera with an NVIDIA Jetson Nano platform for edge AI and robotics, running Ubuntu with OpenCV. Choose the Persee 2 for a compact Android or Linux all-in-one, or the Persee N1 for Jetson-based AI development.
