The partners said they will combine Microsoft\u2019s 3D sensor technology and Orbbec\u2019s camera design know-how, manufacturing capabilities, and unique embedded computing technology.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2013 in Shenzhen, China,\u00a0Orbbec said its Astra 3D cameras are designed to be affordable and that Orbbec Persee is \u201cthe world&#8217;s first camera-computer.\u201d The Troy, Mich.-based\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/orbbec3d.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">company<\/a>\u00a0said developers of robotics, artificial intelligence, and computer vision will be able to connecting its new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.robotics247.com\/topic\/category\/sensors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sensor<\/a>\u00a0to Microsoft&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Azure<\/a>\u00a0cloud platform for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.robotics247.com\/topic\/category\/logistics\" target=\"_top\" rel=\"noopener\">logistics<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.robotics247.com\/topic\/category\/retail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">retail<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.robotics247.com\/topic\/category\/Healthcare\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">healthcare<\/a>, and fitness applications.<\/p>\n<h2>Orbbec to launch ToF cameras<\/h2>\n<p>Orbbec\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/orbbec-debuts-new-3d-cameras-for-wide-range-of-uses-including-pitch-black-environments-at-ces-2021-301205670.html?tc=eml_cleartime\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a>\u00a0its plan at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.robotics247.com\/article\/cool-tech-for-the-new-normal-at-ces-2021-virtual\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CES 2021<\/a>\u00a0to introduce its new time-of-flight (ToF) camera product line, supporting multiple ToF sensors, on-board depth computing, six-axis IMU (inertial measurement unit) motion tracking, and multi-camera synchronization.<\/p>\n<p>ToF is a technology for capturing the exact position and shape of objects and scenes, said Orbbec. Similar in principle of how ultrasound uses sound waves to create an image, ToF uses light to measure shapes, movement, and position of static or moving objects with pinpoint accuracy and at greater distances than previously available in the market.<\/p>\n<p>Orbbec said it is partnering with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.robotics247.com\/search\/results\/?keywords=microsoft&amp;orderby=date\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft<\/a>\u00a0to develop a new series of high-performance 3D\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.robotics247.com\/topic\/category\/Cameras\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cameras<\/a>\u00a0that can run advanced depth vision algorithms using onboard computing to convert raw data into precise depth images. They will securely connect to Azure\u00a0and use device management, data streaming, and AI analytics capabilities, according to the company.<\/p>\n<p>The camera is designed for advanced human\/machine interfaces, robotics, 3D scanning, and surveillance uses as well as gaming and other consumer applications. Orbbec added that it expects to debut its first camera in early 2022.<\/p>\n<h2>Cameras include embedded computing<\/h2>\n<p>Unlike many other ToF cameras, Orbbec said embedded computing capabilities enable its ToF cameras to produce\u00a0high-quality depth data without a PC or other external computing capability. This provides users significantly greater design and application flexibility, it claimed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOrbbec\u2019s long experience in manufacturing high-performance 3D cameras makes them a strong strategic partner for developing products based on Microsoft ToF technology and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.robotics247.com\/topic\/tag\/Microsoft_Azure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Azure<\/a>,\u201d said Cyrus Bamji, Microsoft Partner hardware architect. \u201cThis collaboration will accelerate the availability of ToF sensor cameras with advanced, embedded computing for developers and solution providers worldwide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMicrosoft is a world leader in high-resolution ToF sensor technology and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.robotics247.com\/topic\/category\/Cloud_Edge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cloud<\/a>-based service,\u201d stated David Chen, co-founder and director of engineering at Orbbec. \u201cIts knowledge and intellectual property allow Orbbec to offer a full range of ToF cameras for the widest possible spectrum of uses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOrbbec is excited to join the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/azure3d\">Azure Depth Platform Program<\/a>\u00a0to jointly develop solutions that will enhance the capabilities of both Orbbec and Microsoft\u2019s customer and partner ecosystems,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the development process, Orbbec will engage its customers for early adoption and proofs of concept for the new ToF camera using\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azureremoterenderingga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Azure 3D<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Orbbec 3D today said it is working with Microsoft Corp. to develop new&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":17523,"template":"","section":[81,73],"class_list":["post-17521","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","section-microsoft-news","section-press-release"],"acf":[],"aioseo_notices":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.0 -
